Every good story is like a journey with three stops. If you know the three stops, you can write a story about anything — a lost cat, a school trip, even a talking durian!
BEGINNING introduces the story ·
MIDDLE has a problem ·
END solves it.
Tap Next to visit the first stop!
STOP 1 The Beginning
The beginning answers three little questions: WHO is in the story? WHERE are they? WHEN does it happen?
🔍 Tap the boy, the playground and the sun in the picture to find all three!
👦 WHO — the character. "Amir, a cheeky Primary 3 boy…"
🛝 WHERE — the setting. "…was at the playground near his HDB block…"
🌞 WHEN — the time. "…early one sunny Saturday morning."
🎉 You found all three! Put them together and you get a super beginning: "Early one sunny Saturday morning, Amir was at the playground near his HDB block."
STOP 2 The Middle
The middle is where something goes wrong or gets exciting. We call this the problem. No problem = boring story!
Early one sunny Saturday morning, Amir was at the playground near his HDB block…
🤔 Which sentence gives Amir's story a problem? Tap your choice:
✅ Yes! A flying shoe stuck on a roof — now Amir has a problem to solve. Words like "Suddenly…" and "Uh-oh!" are great for starting the middle.
Not quite — that sentence is calm and nothing goes wrong. Look for the sentence where trouble happens. Try again!
STOP 3 The End
The end does two jobs: it solves the problem, and it tells us how the character feels. That makes the reader go "Ahhh, nice story!"
👟 Amir's shoe is on the roof. Which is the best ending?
🌟 Perfect! The problem is solved (shoe rescued!) and we know Amir feels happy. That's a full, satisfying ending.
Hmm — a good ending must solve the shoe problem and show a feeling. Which choice does both? Try again!
🧩 Story Mix-Up!
Oh no — Mimi the cat's story got shuffled! Tap the parts in the right order: first the beginning, then the middle, then the end. Tap a card again to un-pick it.
🎉 Purr-fect! Beginning (who/where/when) → Middle (thunder trouble!) → End (rescued + relieved). You just built a whole story!
Almost! Remember: start with who, where and when, then the problem, and finish with the fix and the feeling. The cards have been reset — try again!
🎰 The Story Machine
Now YOU choose! Pick one chip from each row and watch the machine build a brand-new story.

🕵️ Story Detective
Read this story. Something important is missing…
Last Sunday, Devi and her grandma went to the wet market to buy fish.
…
Finally, grandma laughed, paid the fishmonger, and they walked home swinging their bags, feeling very pleased.
Which part of the story is missing?
🔎 Case solved! We know who/where/when, and we see the happy ending — but the problem is missing. Maybe a fish jumped out of the basket? Without a middle, the story has no excitement!
Look again, detective! The start tells us who, where and when. The last line solves things and shows a feeling. So what's missing… the exciting trouble part? Try again!
🏅 You did it!
You now know the secret recipe every author uses:
🏠Beginning — introduce who, where and when.
⛈️Middle — something goes wrong! Start with "Suddenly…" or "Uh-oh!"
🏆End — solve the problem and show how the character feels.
✏️ Your mission: take a piece of paper and write your own 3-part story. Ideas: The Day My Water Bottle Talked, Lost at the MRT Station, or The Mysterious Kaya Toast. Remember all three stops!
