Let's Cook Perfect Rice!

Rice is part of so many meals in Singapore — chicken rice, fried rice, or just steaming rice with your favourite dishes.

Today you'll learn to cook fluffy white rice, step by step. It's easier than you think!

1. Gather your things

Before cooking, get everything ready. Tap each mystery card to reveal what it is!

2. Rinse the rice

Rinsing washes off extra starchy powder so your rice won't be too sticky. Keep tapping the bowl to swirl in fresh water until it turns clear!

3. Add the right amount of water

Too little water = hard rice. Too much = mushy rice. A handy rule: add water until it's about one finger-knuckle above the rice.

4. Cook the rice

Now the rice cooker (or pot with a lid) does the work. Press Start and watch it cook with an adult nearby.

The light turns green when it's cooking, then red when it's done!

5. Rest, then fluff

When it's done, wait 10 minutes with the lid on — this makes the rice fluffy. Then gently fluff with a fork or spoon.
